Products to change the height of your monitor:

The simplest and quickest way to raise the height of your monitor is to put it on your hard drive (provided it is not a tower model). If this does not equal the right height for you there are a number of products you could try.

Firstly, it is a good idea to determine at what height your monitor should be. For most people the top of the screen should be at eye height. It is acceptable to experiment with the height of the screen using telephone directories or bound pads of photocopy paper so long as this is only temporary and the monitor is stable. As soon as you have find the height which is comfortable for you purchase the necessary equipment.

Armed with this information you will be in a better position to choose the most appropriate solution. Products that are commonly available include:

Monitor plinths(also called risers). Available in a limited number of heights plinths are an inexpensive way to raise your monitor. In addition many permit the keyboard to be housed underneath when not in use, thus providing space for other tasks. When purchasing be sure to check that the plinth is suitable for the size and weight of your monitor. Cost is approximately £35.

Monitor arms. The most expensive choice that is usually only necessary for multi-user workstations. Prices vary, from £35, depending on the mechanisms and materials used but the cheapest. The cheaper models tend to support lightweight, 15" monitor and provide limited adjustability.

Monitor blocks. Available in differing heights blocks can be used individually or stacked to achieve the correct height. Relatively inexpensive they are study and do not take up any more room than the footprint of your monitor.

Most monitor arms also have a keyboard tray attached. This for storing the keyboard when not in use. Never type with the keyboard on the tray.
