PC Stands/CPU Holders (also known as brackets)
Available from most office equipment suppliers these can be
free standing or attached to the side of the desk. Their purpose
is to safely house the hard drive leaving more room on the desktop.
Specially designed they ensure that the fans/ventilation systems
of the hard drive are not affected.

To choose which type you need review the user's
tasks and the set-up of their workstation. If they need
frequent access to the disk drive or CD-ROM choose a solution
that ensures these aspects are still within comfortable
reach. In order to eliminate any twisting or stooping
whilst reaching the only solution may be to provide the
user with an additional small table. Consider your user
- do they have any health problems such as a bad back,
which will greatly affect where the hard drive is located.

If there is limited room underneath the desk choose
a bracket which attaches to the side of the desk. If the user
has a double pedestal desk (i.e. two sets of drawers) it is
usually better to remove one set of drawers or replace the desk.
Double pedestal desks limit freedom of movement and generally
cannot be used comfortably by those users who have a job that
involves both computer use and writing tasks.

Prices are range from £25 to £70
and the main stockists are ergonomic product suppliers
or large scale distributors e.g. RS Components who sell

and tools to industry. |

When choosing a location for the bracket ensure that the exhaust
fan will not be blowing onto anyone's feet or faces. You will
also need to review your cable management. For more information
on this see the appropriate page in this catalogue.
