If your shoulders start to hunch while you are working
the muscles become tense and sore. If this posture becomes a habit,
over time it will become more and more difficult to relax your shoulders.
Quite often people hunch their shoulders because they are sat too
low. Follow the It's a set-up
guide to check your seat height.
If you work mostly with your head turned to one side, you will begin
to experience muscle tension in your neck and shoulders. Take action
to correct these situations as soon as you can. |

- Pause
from your work at regular intervals to shrug and relax your
shoulders a few times, to sit back in your chair and to
stretch.
- Adjust your seat height so that your keyboard (or input
device) is at about your sitting elbow height.
- Position your
work on the desk
so that you can look straight ahead most of the time.

- Have the letters section of the keyboard
directly in front of you if you rarely use the number pad.
- Keep your upper arms relaxed and hanging comfortably by your
side while you work. Make sure the keyboard is close to you.
- If you have arm rests on your chair, make sure they allow you
to relax your shoulders. If they are adjustable, you may need
them higher than you first think - set them high then work downwards
over a day or two.
