You may have heard of the following terms in relation to
computer based injuries:
WRULD - Work Related Upper Limb Disorder
RSI - Repetition Strain Injury
CTD - Cumulative Trauma Disorder
These are general terms that are used to describe the long-term
damage that people can suffer as a result of working with
one or a combination of: A poor posture, excess force, repetition
of similar movements, lack of recovery breaks, stress. A doctor
may diagnose the damage more specifically, such as tenosynovitis,
tendonitis or epicondylitis. All these are referred to more
generally as a WRULD, RSI or CTD.
A more useful term is Overuse Injury. This is less specific about work or where the injury occurs, and includes a vital clue about the cure...use the affected body part less!
