1. What is Peoplesize?

PeopleSize is a program which gives data on human sizes. It enables you to specify the dimensions for designs or determine how many people will be fitted by a current design.

2.  Why have Peoplesize in your toolkit?

  • Check current designs against different populations and user groups
  • Ensure new designs fit the desired percentage of the population
  • Look-up data to create or justify designing specifications
  • Save time by having all the data in one easily accessible location -on your desktop
  • Quickly see the effects of clothing your users - add headgear, clothes and shoes.
  • Measure your users and then find out their percentiles

3. How does it work?

You select the measurements you want by pointing and clicking the mouse on any triangle on the colour illustrations of the human body. The main advantage of the program is that you can visualise the item you are designing in relation to the human body, then you just click on the measurements which you see to be relevant. It's quick and intuitive to use, and it contains a lot of data. Being simple it is supremely easy to install and use, and needs no training.

4. Do I need to attend a special training course?

No. The program is designed to be learned by experimentation, and no special tutorial session is needed. By the time you have clicked on every menu item and every button, you should have a good idea what PeopleSize offers and how to use it. Anything which is not immediately clear to you will be explained in the Help facilities.

5. What is different about Peoplesize Professional?

The Professional version has all the functionality of Easy plus three additional sets of features, that offer a new level of accuracy in sizing for users of a design:

  • Composite User Groups - lets you specify the users of your design as a mixture of standard population groups.
  • Connected Dimensions - calculates the dimension values among people who are a given percentile in some other dimension.
  • People Percentiles - calculates how to fit users in all the important dimensions at once.

6. How much does it cost?

The price (per copy) for Easy is £149 + VAT* and the Professional version costs £395 + VAT*. If you purchase via snail mail packing and postage is also charged. *(VAT is Value Added Tax, a European sales tax).

7. What can it do for me?

  • User definition Facility - Allows you to specify who will use the design, e.g. different ages, genders and nationalities. You can choose from several pre-defined user groups or define your own.
  • Adjustment Settings - Enables you to get automatic adjustments for both clothing and sitting slump. You can "dress" your users with footwear, headgear, gloves, jacket and trousers.
  • Visual selection - Allows you to visualise people using the design. Then all you have to do is click on the body parts you 'see' to be relevant. Note: ensure you have the correct user group and adjustments selected.
  • People/Auto percentiles - Ensures that people fit the design in ALL dimensions or determines how many people your chosen design does actually fit.

9. Can I have more than one copy on site?

For each PeopleSize licence you own:

You may install PeopleSize onto one hard disk. However, if the installed program is physically unavailable across a network, and if it will not be used in your absence, you may install a second copy on your personal portable computer or on a computer at home. Both copies must be for your personal use only. If you install a second copy on a single licence, you must be able to demonstrate that only one copy will be in use at any one time.

  • If PeopleSize is installed on a networked drive, any workstation may run it, but only the licensed number of instances can run at any one time.

  • In order to enable more than one simultaneous instance of PeopleSize, you must buy extra licences. These are for sale at 25% of the price of the first copy.

  • As for most software, once you have installed PeopleSize you cannot re-sell it to someone else. The property is a non-transferable licence, rather than the physical product.

10. Can I use the data and illustrations in reports? (Copyright details).

The illustrations and data displays are the copyright of Open Ergonomics Ltd. We include as part of your licence a dispensation to reproduce them free of charge, provided that they are not included in an item which is offered for sale as a product. In other words, they can be included in a report, but not, for example, sold in a book (without our specific permission).

  • If they are used in documents circulated only within your company (i.e. a company which owns a licence to use PeopleSize), no acknowledgement is required.
  • If they are used in documents which are made available outside your company, such as a report to a client, the source and copyright should be clearly acknowledged by the text "Reproduced from PeopleSize with permission of Open Ergonomics Ltd".
  • You do not need copyright permission to use the numerical data in your own format. However it is generally a good practice to name data sources, for example by the reference: "PeopleSize software, 2000, by Open Ergonomics Ltd, Loughborough, England."
